The office of Charles Xavier. Often, his mail is sent to his office. As was common when he was busy. Today, a small pile was set on the 'IN' catcher of his desk. Yet on one the envelope was a address Charles hasn't seen for a long, long time.
From a research facility in Scotland. Owned by a woman he deeply knew. A woman that, for the longest time he never thought he'd see again.
It was postmarked about a week ago. Yet it was fortunate it got here at all. Among all his letters. This one would be the only one truly deserving of his full attentions.

Xavier wheeled himself into his office, and first checked his desk for any new paperwork that needed his attention. It had become habit these days, after all, running a school who's purpose you wished to keep hidden was indeed a hard business to run. This didn't even include the many things that he was also building underneath the mansion...including a new type of aircraft that was still in the prototype stage...as well as the power requirements for Cerebro.
It was after he had looked over all the new paperwork that he turned his attention to his inbox. Indeed, it had taken him almost an hour to do the other work in the first place, and he almost didn't bother to open his mail.
But, when he found the package, he was happy he had, "Moira?" he asks no one in particular as he goes to open it.

After he opened the letter. He found a rather common letter to begin. Dear Charles,
It has been years since I last spoke to you. I know sometimes it seems like ages or centuries. If I could, I would have kept up yet after my divorce, and the life we live. I did not feel it in me. My work became my life. Much as it has for you as well.
Either way, my letter is not one of old times. I'm afraid. Instead it's a much more serious matter. I recently took on work for a private contractor to try and decipher an unfamiliar genetic code. This, brought me to realize what it was. I've been working on the 'M-Gene' that has been recently spoken of only in whispers. As odd it sounds, I believe I found a way to push the gene into hibernation. However, that was what I believed was my goal. As of recent however my research was used for something else. The rampage that occured in Brooklyn and Queens, was in part my fault.
You must believe me I never, ever intended such a terrible thing. Especially with the fact it happened so close to you. I've reason to also believe that others know what I know. I'm frightened for my life. Yet it's why I send this to you. I trust you. I always have. More ways than I'd like to say.
Anyway, again. I have sealed information with this letter about the man that hired me. I can't offer much else. Yet I hope that my desperate attempt to show people the truth isn't in complete mockery. I also pray it won't get you in trouble too Charles. I just need to know my work isn't all in harming lives. I wanted to save them and help people, those like you. To save as many lives as possible.
Lord knows you saved mine. After what happened. You've always been a good man Charles.
Love,
Moira MacTaggert |

Xavier put the letter down on the desk and held his head in his hands, So this is what they were looking for... he thinks to himself before picking up the rest of the packet.
He slowly goes over the data, interested in how they managed to create the gas that caused the recent Rampage. But thoughts of his time with Moira constantly came to mind, until finally he decided he needed another set of eyes.
Clicking the button on his phone, he called Eric...

It just so happens Magneto was working much harder than ever before. After the incident with the girl, his mind was on constant command. Preperations to do the unthinkable would it be needed. At the moment... he sat eyes blankly looking at the gerbil he was in some way levitating in the air. He had been working on a means to 'magnetize' living beings. So far, it took him three hours to do so.... three hours being far too long.
Yet he's learned other tricks. Which, did not suffice. Suddenly, he heard the phone. A terrible splatter over his face and the man screamed as he grabbed a towel. Rubbing vigourously. When he answered, he called out, "What is it Charles?"
He frowned to the desk. "I... just made a mess of my next project for the class." Mumbling, "Quite the mess indeed."

"Eric, I want to speak with you right away," says Xavier, the urgency in his voice obvious, "and I'd suggest canceling your next class, or finding a substitute, this matter is rather urgent."
It wasn't often that Xavier made requests like this, not to mention asking him to outright cancel his class if necessary. An obvious sign of the urgency of the matter at hand.

"...." He raised a brow. "I understand, Charles." Closing off the line. He wrote a note. Which was 'Class Dismissed for Today'. He stood and walked to the door.... then, he stopped and went back to his desk. Writing again, he slaps the letter to the front of the door and leaves swiftly. It reads, Class Dismissed for Today.
(Assignments: Pages 74-95, Questionaire to follow next class. As well possible Quiz.) |
A smile and he hurried along. No reason to take it easy on the lightweights. ~~~~ Entering, he shut the door and asked, "What's the urgency Charles? Did something I should know be discussed with faculty?" The last time it was like this. A girl was kidnapped, and all was off kilter. Not much time to repair the damage in all honesty.

"Not exactly. This is something I would prefer to keep between us for the moment though," replies Xavier, picking up the report, "you remember Dr. McTaggert correct?" he asks as he hands it to his old friend.
There was no reason for Xavier to suspect him not to, the three had worked together many many years ago, and it was not an experience they would likely forget.
"She sent me this package recently, and it only just arrived today. And to be honest, it has proven to be a very interesting, and possibly dangerous, read."

Remember? He did... he in some ways recalled the delight Charles had back then. A smirk and he took the document skimming it for the moment. Not aware what he was reading.
Just as it came clear this was a 'dangerous read' he narrowed his eyes with scrutiny. Catching the spot of the 'M-gene' and worse, mention of a cure. Then the mention of the 'Heightening Agent' which warns, 'Swift mutation grows enhanced aggressive natures'. This is where he frowned and looked back to Charles.
"I can see why that would be Charles. So, is this actually what I think it is?" He, thought it a sign of the 'war' he told him about. Yet Charles wasn't always so negative. Realizing it, he clarifies, "Is this a threat to the students, Charles?"

"It's entirely possible that this information could be used as a weapon against mutants, and likely something Mr. Trask would very much like to get his hands on. But now you see the problem at hand."
Xavier goes silent for a moment, then wheels to the window looking out over the courtyard. He looks out, watching the students go about their day, completely unaware of what the world around them plotted. Safe in these, or as safe as he could make them.
"I do miss the days of youth sometimes," he says, finally breaking his silence, "but it's in times like these that the wisdom of age can sometimes help us see clearly."
He turns back to Eric, "To be honest, all I can say is that that document is a very powerful tool. And one I am especially glad that we have. Otherwise we would have been blind to anything they might throw at us."

Magneto narrowed his eyes from the document to Charles. A nod, he agrees. "It was much easier when you were younger... yet, I'll remind you. My youth was not as kind."
Putting the document down he sighed and shook his head. "If there is someone looking to silence the truth. You know chances are they will be coming here. So now we've another issue... what about Moira? She's the only person that knows you have a copy. I know she cares for you. Yet, do you truly believe if they wish. They will not find the truth about this?"
Looking down he hoped on some level Charles will understand. He knew that this was a much graver situation. Then, he frowned before asking, "Charles, what do you plan to do?" He was unaware of the X-men, and more importantly the work being done downstairs that he knew was planned. Yet this, was not his knowledge it had been sped up.

"Sadly, there is only one thing to do now. We have to wait. Though I do plan on going to Scotland, I think it's time to visit her again old friend. Though this will not be a happy reunion."
He knew that going to see her would be dangerous for both of them, but for some reason, he felt it needed to be done.
"I'll leave Scott in charge of the school while we're gone, and find a substitute for your classes. The both of us going to see 'an old colleague' will be much less suspicious. Don't you agree?"

Grinning, he had reason to believe this was far, far more than that. "You miss her don't you old fool?"
Yet he understood. If she's in trouble Charles will want to save her. Better still, get information on this matter and that would be his lot though. Crossing his arms he stood beside the window and looked out as well. "A reunion is a good idea. Yet how we get there is the hard part..." He knew of a ship being worked on to replace the one, unusually destroyed. Yet he was not certain that Charles had any more. Or worse did Charles expect him to get them there?
"Still I bet your boyscout will know something is wrong Charles. He is after all, rather astute with your emotions." A grin, "Like a son in some ways."

"Yes, Scott has gotten much better at reading people than when he first came here. And I do feel terrible not informing him of this, but right now, it's a necessary risk."
He wheeled toward Magneto, "As for getting there, I was just going to have us take the family jet. Much easier to hide than the prototype X15, and also able to fly, unlike it."

"Indeed." A smile again. "Strange, still. We've best move before longer we take and the longer things can become more complicated. I'll go pack my belongings for the trip. As well make a school plan for my classes, for a substitute. Perhaps you should try and settle things here I'm sure there will be a few questions and concerns."
