Demeter's mind was still fogged, her world a blur of pain and anger. She had been flying for nearly 24 hours, only stopping to take a few cat naps, but her fear was to great to allow her to sleep long. She opened her wings, hissing at the tight pain of her muscles. The clicking of the chains that still bound her hands and legs together were the only thing she could hear in the other wise pitch black and silent sky.
She glided on a low current she had managed to find. She watched the buildings and trees below. She didnt have a clue where she was going, all she knew was there was a school for people like her. A heaven far away from the hell she had just come from. She had heard about it from a mutant that was locked away in the camps with her. Xavier's school for the gifted. What a gift she had.
She took in a deep breath then cried out as a cramp shot threw her body. Every fiber of her body was on fire. Exhaustion and the years of malnutrition was finally kicking in. She closed her wings, hoping this would ease the pain. Instead she headed straight for the ground. At a last attempt she opened her wings slightly. She barely missed a high fence, her legs scraping the points at the top, grazing her muddy skin. She whimpered, but tried to focus her mind.
She thrust open her wings and tried to land standing, but the chains around her feet tripped her up, causing her to fall to the ground as soon as she landed, crashing down hard on her wing. She let out a scream of frustration and pain, knowing it was broken by the sickening snap she heard.
She crumpled to the ground, her heart and breathing seemingly in a race to be the fastest. She closed her eyes, trying to bring peace to herself. She opened her eyes and looked around her, pulling her chained hands to her face to wipe away the muck and blood that covered her eyes. She blinked once, a street light giving her enough light to show her what she had been looking for.
A sign, metal and gleaming in the light like a sign of heaven. The words melted her icy heart. She was laying in the front yard of Xavier's school. She allowed herself to smile as her world started to fuzz over once more. She squinted as a shadow moved toward her.
"I made it." She told the shadow, just before everything went black. She had passed out at Heaven's gate.
(Her appearence to whoever sees her: Broken wing, covered in mud and ick, bloody back from whip marks, scars everywhere, tangled and matted hair, a complete mess)
