Demeter smiled softly to herself. It was just after sunrise, the sky was still splashed with the pinks and oranges of early morning. The dew still clung to the few leaves that had yet to let loose from the fall frosted trees. A low fog hugged the ground in a somber white blanket, making the world seem magical.
The song like tweets from the few remaining birds seemed to be the only sound around her. Being Saturday the kids were resting from a long week of school and work.
She had come out here to think about what she was to do next. It had only been a week since she had arrived at the school and she was much to old to remain here as a student. For the first time in a long time she felt happy with the choices she had made, she wanted to make sure she could still be happy with whatever she chose.
She drew her wings around her like a cloak and started down a path between a few trees. Their soft yellows and orange leaves blushed their colors, as if competing with the sun for brilliance. She sighed happily at the feel of the cool, damp earth beneath her bare feet. She turned her eyes to the trees, watching a pair of birds skitter across the pale sky. She smiled and softly started humming, her world feeling complete. Could life get any better?
