On Valentine’s Day, 2007, Apex City was caught off guard by an invasion. This invasion did not come from within. It was not wave of attack by the criminal elements present in the city. Nor did this invasion come from a terrestrial source. This invasion came from the stars. To this day nobody knows who sent the invasion but we have ascertained the purpose: total destruction. It came like a fist from the heavens, slamming into downtown Apex City at dawn. The creature, a giant, ten story tall, metallic monstrosity later dubbed Armageddon after the Biblical site for the end of the world, laid waste to everything in its path. It destroyed much of downtown and killed tens of thousands in the process.
The Governor sent in the national guard. President Bush sent in the Marines. Heroes of all types, and even some villains showed up to fight the menace. The combined might of forces, superhuman and mundane were barely enough to keep the creature in check. As the fierce battle, that lasted into days, continued on into a bloody stalemate, the premier hero of his generation, the Golden Guardian decided to act once and for all. He hurled both himself and his foe into the center of the sun eradicating them both.
While the city was saved from absolute destruction, it had lost the majority of its hero population, including its very core. The Golden Guardian’s group, the Apex Alliance, fell apart from attrition, both from retirement and the body count. Other heroes scattered to the wind, leaving only a handful to take care of what was left of the city and the villains that still walked among the general population.
The city is just now having a revival. Most of downtown is beginning to look as it had before and a new generation of heroes have (and villains) have begun to emerge. Some have taken on the capes and masks of their predecessors while still others have begun to forge a new way.
So begins the Apex City Revival . . .
